State Bank of Pakistan Introduce New Currency Notes in 2025

State Bank of Pakistan

In recent months, social media has been full of rumors claiming that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is going to issue new currency notes in 2025. Many unverified pages even shared fake pictures of “polymer notes,” including a redesigned Rs.100 note.

But the State Bank of Pakistan has officially denied all these claims.

SBP’s Official Clarification

On August 15, 2025, the SBP released a clear statement:

  • There is no plan to issue new currency notes.
  • Rumors about plastic or polymer notes are false.
  • Reports of a “nationwide launch in July 2025” are baseless.
  • The existing notes Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.500, Rs.1,000, and Rs.5,000 will continue to be valid for all transactions.

How the Rumors Began

The false news started spreading after a TikTok video showed a fake Rs.1,000 note, which quickly went viral.

  • Several blogs and WhatsApp groups joined in, claiming that the new notes would feature landmarks like Badshahi Mosque, Faisal Mosque, and K2.
  • Some posts even said that low-serial-number notes would sell for high prices in auctions.
The State Bank of Pakistan confirmed that all these reports are completely untrue.

SBP’s Advice to the Public

The SBP has urged citizens to:

Follow only official SBP sources for news and updates.

Avoid scams or people claiming to sell “new notes.”

Report any suspicious activity to the SBP helpline: 111-727-273.

The Current Situation

All currency notes from Rs.10 to Rs.5,000 remain legal and valid. Recently, the State Bank of Pakistan issued a Rs.75 commemorative coin for Independence Day. This shows the bank’s focus is currently on limited-edition coins, not new note designs.

Final Words

The State Bank of Pakistan continues to educate the public about fake currency and promote digital payments to reduce cash use.
For now, Pakistan’s existing notes are completely safe, secure, and fully usable across the country.
